Board of Directors
President: Genevieve Peterson
Genevieve Peterson is currently serving as President and Education Director for A One-Room Schoolhouse. She leads the board of directors in program development, goal setting, evaluation, and fundraising efforts. As Education Director she oversees teaching, curriculum, classroom management, and assessment. Genevieve brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team as an educational professional for over 20 years. She holds degrees and credentials in elementary education, math education, and special education along with national certification as a school psychologist. Outside of A One-Room Schoolhouse, she has spent time working on humanitarian efforts in Nepal, teaching Sunday school and volunteering with her church youth group. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and four children exploring the great outdoors, running long-distance races, and eating her husband’s culinary creations.
Vice-President: Phillip Peterson
Phillip Peterson enjoys serving as Vice-President for A One-Room Schoolhouse. He is a tireless supporter of the president and employs his skills in budget planning, fundraising, and facilities management. Professionally, Phill brings over 20 years of professional business experience to the team with special talents in strategy, logistics, planning, marketing, and sustainability. He is an excellent presenter, problem solver, and long-range planner. In addition to being an Eagle Scout, he has also given years of service to missionary endeavors and church leadership. When he is not working or volunteering, Phill enjoys cooking for his family, fishing with his kids, and consuming all things Star Wars.
Treasurer: Bryan Duford
Bryan is serving as the Treasurer for A One-Room Schoolhouse, and is currently employed in Supply Chain in the chemical industry. A native of California, Bryan has traveled extensively and is never sure where to tell people he is from (He has lived all over the US). His work experience includes inventory management, procurement, production planning, missionary endeavors, and a touch of software programming. Bryan speaks Spanish and enjoys reading, playing the piano, juggling, and playing with his 2 kids.
Secretary: Suzanne Price
Suzanne loves to organize and keep people (especially her husband and three children), schedules, and files in order. She has spent the last six years organizing monthly family and student events for the Washington School District K-6 Schoolwide Title 1 Program. She has also worked as a substitute paraprofessional and secretary where she learned all different learning, teaching, and discipline techniques and administrative responsibilities. Suzanne has many years of service, teaching, and organizing in the community and church programs. She loves playing the piano, learning the guitar, doing puzzles, watching movies, playing games, exploring outside, being creative, spending time with her husband and three children, creating memories, and going on new adventures. She is excited to serve as Secretary on the board as she believes in what this hybrid can do in strengthening students and families.
Communication Specialist: Leah Bender
Leah Bender currently serves as the Communications Specialist for A One-Room Schoolhouse and works closely with the Education Director to manage the school’s social media accounts, website, and events. Leah holds degrees in journalism and religious studies, and both she and her husband, Dan, are graduates of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Leah is also the mother of three boys and a native of Minnesota. She has lived in six different states, traveled to 16 countries, and worked for an international relief and development organization and a variety of nonprofits. Leah is also a plant and herbal medicine enthusiast and enjoys making natural remedies to keep her family healthy.
