I was very happy that so many of you were able to join us for our first Facebook Live Parent Night. Covid-19 has forced many of us to get creative in our interactions. Instead of our originally planned parent night, the Facebook Live Parent Night worked out well.
I wanted to share with you some of the questions that were asked as I am sure you may have many of the same questions! Also, I wanted to talk briefly about our virtual learning options announced during the parent night.
If you missed our live event and want to watch it, it is here.

Questions and Answers
Here are the questions that were asked during the Facebook Live and the answers that were given.
Would families order their own curriculum or would the Schoolhouse order the curriculum in bulk?
Great question! After summer placement testing, parents will order the language arts and math curriculum (also nature notebook as applicable) from The Good and the Beautiful. For other subject areas, The Good and the Beautiful copyright agreement allows eight students to use the same history, science, and arts and crafts books. You will be asked to pay your portion of that material. These “shareable” materials will be purchased by A One-Room Schoolhouse.
Could a student do just one day of the science or history clusters?
Not really. It would be hard to learn the needed material to progress in the curriculum. But, if there are extenuating circumstances, please contact the education director, and let’s see what we can work out. (It would not be impossible.) You can email me at [email protected]
What age range does A One-Room Schoolhouse serve?
For the 2020-2021 school year, we will serve students from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Here is more information on that question.
Any chance you might try some virtual morning time during spring or early summer?
Maybe… stay tuned!
Would preschoolers be able to participate in any elements – particularity Friday activities?
Field trip days and festival days are family events. Siblings are always welcome these days. The Education Director can help you arrange babysitting for younger siblings during your volunteer commitment. You can read more about this here and here.
What achievement test do you use?
Whatever test the parents prefer. Group testing is included in the cost of tuition. Individualized, more detailed testing (like the WJ – Achievement) can be arranged with the Education Director for an additional fee.
If A One-Room Schoolhouse students attend the science cluster in person, can they add the virtual history lesson on the days they are not attending in person?
Yes! This could also be done in reverse. (This question was asked shortly after the live lesson on direct message.)
Feedback and Question:
I would love to know if you are interested in a summer “morning time” virtual series presented roughly around 9:00 AM EST. (It would also be saved for those that want to view it at a later time.) I don’t know the cost, but roughly half of the school year cost listed above. Drop a comment below if that is something your family would be interested in!
