Behind the scenes, our Schoolhouse has been terribly busy so I thought I would give you a little schoolhouse update. I am afraid this update will be a little bit random, but I hope to hit a on number of important developments.
(And some totally unrelated pictures from our recent schoolhouse projects. Just for fun!)
Location
I am sure many of you are curious about our location search for the 2021-2022 school year. Right now, I am getting together our application packet to appeal to the zoning board of the town we are targeting in our search. The next zoning meeting will be held on April 19th and our packet is due at the end of this week.
No one has ever heard of a hybrid homeschool support group, so zoning does not know what to do with us! Oh, the learning I am doing in this grand adventure!
It is a stressful process, and I wish I could share with you the location but until matters of zoning, price, and facility use are taken care of, I just cannot let you in on the secret! You can look at my “application” blog post and see our target area. I promise you the location we are going through the zoning process for is in that target area.
After the zoning process is complete and we have a solid contract on the property, I will be so excited to announce our location for the 2021-2022 school year. Until then you are just going to have to sit tight and trust me that it is going to be wonderful. With all of that, I would like to talk a little bit more about applications for the 2021-2022 school year.
Applications
I am excited to announce that our lower grades, roughly kindergarten through second, are FULL for both our science (Monday/Tuesday) and elective cluster (Friday). I have a couple more slots open for our Wednesday/Thursday history cluster in those primary grades. If you were a part of our initial application wave, I will be sending out emails in just a couple of days noting the acceptance of your application.
On the flip side, our older grades (fourth through high school) still have some availability. I would encourage those of you contemplating enrollment for your older child to get your application in soon! We have exciting social and service events planned for these upper-grade students in this upcoming school year. Additionally, A One-Room Schoolhouse offers support to you (the parent) through what can be a difficult time with homeschoolers.
Homeschooling in the Secondary Years
When my upper-grade parents comment on the services A One-Room Schoolhouse provides, the most valuable resource they reference is ACCOUNTABILITY. We take the power struggle out of homeschooling as parents are no longer the bad guy. A One-Room Schoolhouse becomes the accountability piece! Our checklist system is magical for our older students. Make sure you stay tuned with our Instagram and Facebook stories to see examples of how that works all week!
Can you hear your teenager whining: Why do I have to do this? When do I have to get this done? Why does it have to be so long? Do I really have to read this book? All these questions are easily answered when you are A One-Room Schoolhouse student: because Mrs. Peterson told you to!
Save your relationship with your teenager and become A One-Room Schoolhouse student and blame me! I give you permission…but only if you put in your application!
What I Am Working On…
